Impact Norwood, Norwood Youth Soccer and Progress Norwood are excited to host the first annual Norwood World Cup and Cultural Celebration. In addition to the jamboree style tournament, there will be lawn games and other cultural activities available for all community members—pack a picnic and bring the family! You don’t need to be playing in the tournament to have a great afternoon!

REGISTER TO PLAY HERE! Please be sure to read all information before signing up.

When and Where: September 21st, 2019 from 3pm-7pm, Coakley Middle School

*Please Note: Games for grades 9-12 will take place during the first half of the event (3pm-5pm) and games for grades 5-8 will take place during the second half of the event (5pm-7pm).

Purpose of the event: To encourage youth and adult relationships, promote physical activity, and provide an alternative Saturday evening activity for youth and adults in Norwood. Additionally, Impact Norwood and Progress Norwood are hoping this event will develop a sense of community cohesion by celebrating and embracing our neighbors with cultural backgrounds different than our own.

To make this a family friendly event, there will be food fur purchase, lawn games and other cultural activities! Bring a picnic and come cheer on your neighbors!

Tournament Logistics: 3 vs. 3 Jamboree Style “World Cup”

*Teams of two will register together, and will be randomly paired with another team of two. One adult from the community will then be assigned to each team of 4, for a total of 5 people on each team. Once registration has closed, each team of five will be assigned a country, at random, to represent. The countries playing in the Norwood World Cup represent how multicultural Norwood is, and gives the community a chance to celebrate all of our neighbors.

T-shirts will be provided, but teams are encouraged (and will be rewarded) if players find other ways to show team spirit for the country they are representing.

The following options are worth 1 point each:

  • Bringing a group of fans wearing team colors and posters with respectful phrases in a language spoken in the country you are representing (for example, “defense” or, “Go! Fight! Win!” Please note: if there are any posters with disrespectful language, you will be asked to leave the event.

  • Bring a list of five unique facts about the country you are representing to the registration table before the start of the game.

  • Learn the “football chant” for the country you are representing and use it throughout the game (ONLY if the language is appropriate)

Who: There will be 16 teams total. 8 teams will be designated for grades 9-12 and 8 teams will be designated for grades 5-8.
