Hello Norwood Community!

I first want to thank everyone that made this magazine possible, we couldn't have done it without all of the teachers support, parents that were willing to submit there kids work and Norwood residence that were willing to share their story. It was truly an honor to make this magazine and we are very glad to announce that it has been completed and can be accessed through the link below.

Mindful Mustangs is a magazine written by and for Norwood residents about their wellness.

The magazine features articles and art created by Norwood residents reflecting all aspects of health,  including sharing favorite ways to exercise, the best local restaurants to get a healthy meal, stories of resilience, coping mechanisms, and creating a new sport!

 

We are looking for contributions of all kinds from all ages!

If you’d like to participate but need some ideas of what to write about, please look at the variety of prompts we have available. We have some general prompts as well as prompts that may be best suited to specific age groups. We encourage you to take a look and get inspired to express your wellness however suits you best!

  • Here are some general prompts that can help inspire articles for people of all ages!

    What is your favorite local place to get a healthy meal?

    What is your favorite local hike/scenic location?

    How does physical activity impact your mental health?

    How has substance use (your own or others’) impacted your life?

    Why do we need to talk about mental health?

    Share a resilience story of overcoming adversity, including mental health and addiction struggles. 

    What is your favorite way to stay active?

    Why is it important to eat a balanced diet?

    Why is it important to have alone time? What is the difference between taking time for yourself and isolating yourself?

    What do you do to feel better when you are feeling angry or sad?

    What does it mean for someone to have a “safe space”? How could this be beneficial to a person’s well-being?

    What are some signs that someone may be struggling with their mental health?

    Why is it important for people to prioritize their mental care and wellness?

    Who could you turn to if you were struggling with your own mental wellness?

    Why is it important to talk about your feelings with family and friends?

    How do you challenge negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones?

    What is one way you can support a friend going through a hard time?

    Do jokes about mental health mock people who are struggling or serve to de-stigmatize these forms of illness? Why?

    Some illnesses simply occur (some say due to genes), while others are triggered by an event. Should these be differentiated? Why or why not?

All submissions are due by 3/16.

You will hear back about your article submission by 4/6.

We hope to have the magazine complete by 7/1.
